Pittsburgh Class of 2012 Team Profile

Overview

Pittsburgh got a great inside-out duo in point guard James Robinson (#44) and Steven Adams (#6). Adams will make an immediate impact for the Panthers and Robinson will be a terrific four-year floor general for Pitt. The New Zealand native is the most under the radar prospect in the class of 2012 since he only recently came to the United States. He is a very good athlete, has good length and has a good body. He’s great on the defensive end between his excellent shot-blocking abilities, rebounding skills and all-around presence. Adams also has a terrific work ethic and has a very high ceiling.

Steven Adams | Overall: #6 | Position: Center (#4) | 6’11 | 235

The New Zealand native is the most under the radar prospect in the class of 2012 since he only recently came to the United States. He is a very good athlete, has good length and has a good body. He’s great on the defensive end between his excellent shot-blocking abilities, rebounding skills and all-around presence. Adams also has a terrific work ethic and has a very high ceiling. On the offensive end, he’s able to consistently hit the mid-range jumper but he needs to develop more confidence in his shooting. He also needs to improve his ability to score in the paint. Overall, he’s a great get for Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon and the Panthers should consider this a steal, grabbing Adams before many other teams really knew about him.

James Robinson | Overall: #44 | Position: Point Guard (#9) | 6’3 | 201

Robinson is the ultimate floor general who is an excellent extension of the coach, a true leader at the point guard position and a guy with a high basketball-IQ. He’s a guy who makes smart decisions on the court and is someone you can trust with the ball in his hands. Robinson is a good passer with matching court vision and can handle the ball in addition to the fact that he can score in the mid-range game. He’s also a hard worker and his weaknesses are more along the lines of his lack of elite physical tools (i.e. quickness, speed, explosiveness). He should be a great four-year player for the Panthers and is an overlooked guy in this Pittsburgh recruiting class since Jamie Dixon also reeled in Steven Adams.

Chris Jones | Overall: NR | Position: SG (NR) | 6’4 | 190

Jones is an athletic guard who has good size and strength. He can get to the rim and make shots from the perimeter but he needs to improve his ball-handling. He could also develop more consistency on his three-point shot but don’t expect him to make too much of an impact at Pittsburgh. His ceiling looks to be as a role player.
