Quick Analysis

Shannon Scott

PG (#7)

Scott is a smooth point guard who is a great passer and has excellent instincts. He is a very good penetrator which allows him to kick it out or dish it to a big man once he gets into the lane as well. Scott also has outstanding ball-handling skills and is very athletic and aggressive on defense which nets him a good amount of steals.

Amir Williams

C (#4)

Williams is a big man who has good length and excellent shot-blocking and rebounding abilities. He runs the floor well for his position and has the footwork you hope for in a center. He is also surprisingly quick and athletic for his size which enables him to score off the dribble when facing the basket.

Sam Thompson

SF (#14)

Thompson is a versatile player who is one of the best dunkers in the country. He is very athletic, great in transition and can finish very well whether it’s a dunk or making a bucket through contact. He is also very long and can guard multiple positions and can fill up the stat sheet with blocks if you aren’t careful.

LaQuinton Ross

SF (#16)

Ross is a talented small forward with great size, length and athleticism. He can score in a variety of ways since he can hit three-pointers, make mid-range pull-up jumpers and slash to the basket to get easy buckets.

Trey McDonald

C (NR)

McDonald is the type of big man who runs the floor well and has good size and length. He primarily scores with his back to the basket but he does have the ability to it the mid-range jumper.

The Buckeyes have three top-50 recruits and versatility in their class between point guard Shannon Scott (#40), small forward Sam Thompson (#49) and center Amir Williams (#48). Thad Matta really came up clutch with this recruiting class since three starters are leaving and he brings in four guys who could make an immediate impact for the Buckeyes. Small forward LaQuinton Ross is a guy who barely missed out on the top-50 and is an athletic slasher. Another great thing about this class is they seem like four guys who could really excel playing with each other; Scott always seems to make everyone around him better, Williams is a great passer from the post position especially to slashing wing-players, and Thompson and Ross are both simply team-players.
