Mississippi State

A Quick Look

Pos. (Rank)

Quick Analysis

Rodney Hood

SF (#9)

Hood is a big-time scorer with great length at the small forward position and has the ability to knock it down from beyond the arc, pull up for mid-range jump shots and take it to the rim. He has a lot of potential and is a match-up nightmare due to his size and athleticism.

David Gardner

When Gardner gets hot, you simply can’t stop him. He has the ability to light up the scoreboard in a short amount of time and has tremendous range on his three-point shot. He also utilizes the pump-fake well.

Deville Smith

Smith is a great scorer who is very fast with the ball and attacks the rim constantly and fearlessly. He is very good in transition and has the ability to finish both around and through contact. He is also a terrific ball-handler and can make mid-range and perimeter jump shots.

Roquez Johnson

Johnson is a combo forward with great length and athleticism. He excels in transition and is effective in getting to the basket. He also finishes well above the rim and has good upside.

Shawn Long

Long is a big man who is an excellent shot-blocker and rebounder. He also has good strength and athleticism and has the ability to knock down perimeter shots.

This Mississippi State class is full of great scorers between small forwards Rodney Hood (#33) and David Gardner and point guard Deville Smith. This trio will definitely help Mississippi State as they’re losing their leading scorer in Revern Johnson on a squad that was already 141 in the country in points per game. The Bulldogs also have two physically gifted prospects who are more athletes than basketball players in power forwards Roquez Johnson and Shawn Long. Both have good upside and have a lot of room to develop because of their raw talent.
