Thanks to class of 2012 shooting guard Jordan Price (Auburn) for doing the interview with us. Price talked to us about why he chose Auburn, how he got to play with LeBron James and much more.
Meeting all the different coaches that I always saw on television when I was growing up and just being wanted by a lot of great colleges, that’s a big reason why I really loved the process.
What was your least favorite part of the recruiting process?
Leading some of the colleges on, like taking visits because they wanted me to take visits even though I wasn’t that interested in them, that was the only thing. I loved the recruiting process, it was the best.
Why did you commit to Auburn?
It was just a great situation for me and my family. It was close to home, not too far, just about an hour away. I have a real good relationship with the coaching staff too and their style of play really fits my game.
What do you like about Auburn that isn’t basketball related?
I like the football team, they had a great season last year, I was invited to a couple of their games. The campus is really nice and it just has that home feeling.
What are you looking forward to at Auburn?
The basketball season, meeting new people and getting accustomed to the college life. I know it’s going to be hard but I’m ready to try and ready for anything coming my way.
Are there any specific games you’re excited for?
Our in-state rival, Alabama, I’m really looking forward to that game. I’m just excited to play everyone in the SEC and anyone in the country who didn’t recruit me to show them why they should have.
Why did you choose to commit at the time that you did?
I just felt it was the best situation for me and there was no reason to keep looking because Auburn offers everything me and my parents prayed and talked about.
Who helped you the most in the recruiting process?
My parents and my brothers, my family basically. My trainer, Gary Hamilton, and some other people.
How have they helped you?
They went on visits with me, opened up letters with me and just talked to me about what I wanted and what they wanted.
Have you been recruiting anyone else for Auburn?
Yes, I’ve been going after [class of 2012 power forward] Jarnell Stokes (#17) from Memphis, I know Auburn really likes him. I actually go to schools with [class of 2012 power forward] William “Shaq” Goodwin (#26) so I talk to him a lot about it. Anyone who’s even considering Auburn I would talk to them about it and recruit them.
How easy was it for you to choose Auburn?
It was real easy for me because a lot of the schools came at me late because I was a real good Fall so a lot of schools jumped on me late but Auburn was on me from the beginning and I felt like they really wanted me.
What’s your favorite basketball memory?
When I was 14 my AAU team won the Adidas 64 when I was with the Atlanta Celtics.
When I want to Auburn their speaker was Charles Barkley and I got to talk to him, that was real cool.
Did you have a favorite school growing up? Did it impact your recruitment at all?
My favorite school was Memphis. That mattered because I was really considering them for a minute.
What are your goals for Auburn?
To get in better shape and accustomed to college. They have summer classes so I want to take those and get ahead. I just want to keep my grades up and make my teammates better. Hopefully we win the SEC and National Championship.
What have you learned from playing basketball?
That you’re different from everyone else, you can’t be like them and do what they’re doing. You have to sacrifice a lot growing up and I feel it kind of makes you “a man.”
What’s your favorite thing about playing basketball?
Winning, I love winning.
What has been your favorite event so far this summer?
The EYBL circuit, you play against the top players in the country and I used to never get to see these guys when I played for an Adidas team, these are Nike guys.
Why do you play the game of basketball?
I love it, I’m never not around the game, I like to play and I’m pretty good at it so that kind of helps.
What’s one thing people probably don’t know about you?
I love to sing, I’ve been singing this Lil Wayne song lately called How to love.
Do you have any YouTube videos yet?
It will be up in a little bit [laughing].
I got to go to the LeBron [James] Skills Academy this year. It was cool playing with other top players in my class and getting to play with LeBron. It was a real great experience, he’s one of my favorite players in the NBA right now and for him to pass me the ball and for me to score off his assist was real fun.
