Thanks to #14 overall prospect Khem Birch for doing the interview with us. Birch is a Jordan Brand Classic participant as well as a McDonald’s All-American center out of Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts and committed to the Panthers last September.
So how does it feel to be a McDonald’s All-American?
It’s an honor because nobody in my city has ever made it and only a few Canadians have ever made it so it is a blessing to be picked… I’m really excited for it.
What are you most looking forward to about the game?
I’m looking forward to having fun, having a good experience, and playing with the top players in the country.
What are you expecting to get out of the experience?
I’m expecting to get better from playing against the top players and having a good and memorable experience.
Who do you look forward to playing with next year at Pitt?
I look forward to playing with Malcolm Gilbert and Dante Taylor. Me and Malcolm will be hard to score on because we are both good shot blockers and Dante because he was a McDonald’s All-American and he will show me the ropes at Pitt.
What’s your favorite and least favorite part of being recruited?
My favorite part is learning about the school and how they will develop you into their tradition. My least favorite part is all the lies they tell you so you could go to their school.
Why did you choose to commit to Pittsburgh? What about them attracted you to the program?
I chose Pitt because they are a good program and Coach Skerry went there and I have had a relationship with him since I was 15.
What has basketball taught you off the court and in life?
It has taught me how to be tough and how to be a leader. It’s helped be become a leader since I’m louder now and more outspoken.
Why do you play basketball?
I first played basketball because I was tall but now I play because I love it. I really want to get better and every time I play that’s what I try to do.
What’s your favorite memory playing basketball?
My favorite memory was playing with my winter team the Nepean Bobcats in Canada when we were the 16 seed and nobody expected us to win. We ended up coming in fourth in the tournament and become the first 16 seed to ever do that.
What’s your favorite thing about basketball?
What I like about basketball is the crowd and the team. I like how you can become a family with your teammates.
What do you think you need to improve upon?
I look at rebounding and defense because those are the two most important things for the team and for us to win.
