John Cannon

Class of 2011 center John Cannon out of Mountain Heritage High School (North Carolina) talked to us today about his commitment which he will make Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (EST). His final three schools are Georgia, North Carolina and Northwestern and has offers from every school except for UNC.

Why did you narrow your list down to Georgia, North Carolina and Northwestern?

They’re three great places where I’ll be surrounded by great players. I think they will all help my development and the coaches are really nice.

Are there any current college players at any of the three schools recruiting you hard to join them?

Yeah, a bunch of Northwestern guys have been trying to get me to come, they’re really good guys that I would really enjoy playing with.

So why are you considering North Carolina even though they’re the only school that hasn’t offered you?

I grew up a UNC fan and have loved them my whole life. It feels like home because I’ve known it all my life. I think I’m a hard worker so I’ll red shirt next year and then make an impact on the team the year after that.

Is UNC’s thin front court part of the reason you are considering them?

I would say so, I feel that Henson will be gone after next year, Zeller will definitely be gone and there’s a good chance Barnes will be gone too.

Are there any particular players you are looking forward to potentially playing with in college?

I would love to play with Kendall Marshall because he’s such a good passer. It would be really awesome to play with him. There’s also a bunch of guys I would love to play with at Northwestern (Editor’s note: Cannon went on to name almost their whole roster).

Have you already made your decision or are you still undecided?

It’s going to come down to the wire. I thought I knew where I wanted to go but I’m still not sure.

  2. John. NU’s the place for you! One of the best school’s in the country, easy access to one of the best city’s in the country, and an opportunity to not only play right away in the BIG 10 but be a part of a freshmen class that has the potential to some special things on the basketball court. Best of luck with your decision.
