Class of 2014 star shooting guard D’Angelo Russell doesn’t have a favorite or any schools standing out to him yet, but the slew of visits he has taken and has planned is giving him a more accurate depiction of the programs he’s looking at.
“My [Kentucky] visit was tight,” Russell told NRS, “I was really surprised. I was surprised by the way the coaches care about the players, I didn’t think they cared as much as they do. They really want to bring the best out of their players. That is the main aspect I’m looking for at the moment.”
Russell was impressed by other aspects of Kentucky on his visit to Lexington as well. “It was great,” he added. “It was super nice and [assistant] coach Kenny Payne was also a big highlight because of everything he was saying. He talked about how he was at Oregon and thought it was the best place then he came to Kentucky and saw what they were doing with the kids so that caught my eye.”
While the Louisville native was on campus, he did a plethora of things including the typical tour of campus. However, it’s obvious Russell thinks of Kentucky’s facilities as more than just typical. “My favorite part was the dorms and campus,” he said. “The dorms were new and the format was nice. The atmosphere of the campus was just alive.”
Now that he has finished up trips to a couple of local programs in Kentucky and Cincinnati in the last couple of weeks, the Montverde Academy (FL) rising junior is branching out-of-state again and plans on visiting Tennessee next. He doesn’t have a date set up for that yet and doesn’t have any other schools that he’s currently interested in taking a closer look at.
