Duke among Ojeleye’s favorites after visit

Duke has always been a school that class of 2013 small forward Semi Ojeleye has been interested in since they began showing interest.

However, they cemented their status in his recruitment recently by offering the 6’6, 220-pound Kansas native when he visited Durham this past weekend.

“It’s a blessing to get an offer from them,” Ojeleye told NRS. “They’re a big-time program, they win a lot of games and they’re definitely a program with high standards. It’s a blessing and it just keeps me working hard.”

Duke joins Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Wisconsin among the schools who have offered him and Kansas is the only school Ojeleye is considering but hasn’t offered.

After the visit, the Blue Devils now rank among his favorite schools. “Duke is up there near the top of my list,” he said. “Duke’s up there, Wisconsin is up there, Stanford, UCLA, Arizona and schools like that.”

One reason Ojeleye is so high on the Blue Devils is because of their coaching staff. “Just the way the coaching staff interacted [was unique],” he said. “Most of the guys on the staff have all played for [head] coach [Mike] K[rzyzewski] so they’re all on the same page and talking about the same stuff. I think Coach K is really down to earth, he’s a nice guy.”

The visit itself was helpful to the Blue Devils’ cause, too. “My visit went very well,” Ojeleye added. “The coaching staff and everything they said was good, the facilities are nice and it’s a nice campus.” UCLA is the next school he wants to visit although he says he doesn’t know when he’ll have time to visit the Bruins since he has a busy July coming up.

Because he has now been able to take some visits and identify some schools standing out to him, Ojeleye was able to give NRS a possible timetable for when he wants to commit. “Not exactly,” he said when asked if he knows when he wants to end his recruitment. “I’m thinking I might get it over with before the season starts in November but it’s not set in stone.”
