When DeMatha Catholic HS (Maryland) and Gonzaga College HS (Washington, DC) met three weeks ago, the game was decided by two free throws with 1.2 seconds left, giving Gonzaga the 76-74 win.
This time, playing at home, DeMatha looks to reverse their fortunes.
“You could say that we have revenge on our minds,” class of 2012 DeMatha small forward Jerami Grant (Syracuse) said, “but we’re trying to erase last game out of our minds. We just want to play hard for 32 minutes, not take any plays off and just execute.”
Most high school conferences in the country are lucky to boast one national powerhouse, but the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) has two with both Gonzaga and DeMatha ranked in ESPN’s Week 9 POWERADE FAB 50 Rankings, at #14 and #29. Both squads feature multiple top-50 prospects from Gonzaga’s class of 2013 stars point guard Nate Britt (North Carolina) and power forward Kris Jenkins to DeMatha’s class of 2012 studs point guard James Robinson (Pittsburgh) and Grant.
Be sure to check out this must-see game tonight at 7:30pm on ESPN2 featuring the stars of tomorrow. The coaches on the sideline are also among the best in the country including DeMatha head coach Mike Jones, who is the assistant coach on the U16-17 USA Basketball National Team.
Dematha in a landslide!
