Baylor forward Perry Jones III has been suspended for the Bears’ opening game in the Big 12 Tournament tonight against Oklahoma for accepting impermissible benefits. He could also be kicked off the team according to TV reports in Dallas (Baylor has yet to make a statement on this subject). He is a starter for Baylor and averages around 14 ppg and 7 rpg.
Update: Jason King of Yahoo! Sports is now reporting that the NCAA suspended Jones not only for tonight’s game, but for the rest of the season. He also said that Baylor is in the process of appealing the decision.
Update #2: According to Jones’ AAU Coach, the “impermissible benefits” were three loans totaling less than $1,000.
This post will be updated as more details are reported and when Baylor makes a statement about Jones III.
