Prospects to keep an eye on

With the 2012 rankings and analysis released a week ago, it’s time to take a look at some prospects who just missed out and have a great chance to move into the top-50 in the next year or so. Here are a few guys to keep an eye on:

  1. Montrezl Harrell (Virginia Tech)- Harrell is one of the most athletic power forwards in the country and runs the floor extremely well. He has great length and strength too and is a good shot-blocker. He is also an extremely good rebounder and has a lot of potential due to his natural abilities. Harrell is a match-up problem since he is so versatile and can play the 3 or 4 but he needs to improve on his strength and general post skills so he can develop into a solid post-scorer and defensive presence.
  2. Joell James (Undecided)- James is a very undeveloped prospect with a lot of raw talent and potential. He has great size and length for a post-player and is a good rebounder. He is also not a great shot-blocker but his physical tools give him the ability to become a good one which would really increase his defensive presence. He reminds me a lot of class of 2011 big-man Adjehi Baru between his size and style of play and should be an intriguing person to follow as he develops and matures in the next year.
  3. Jerami Grant (Undecided)- Grant is an athletic wing player who has a good mid-range game and is versatile. He is an offensive threat who can score in many ways whether it’s through posting up a small defender, taking a big defender out on the perimeter and slashing into the lane, or by hitting the pull-up jumper which he consistently makes. He needs to improve on his defense and work to get stronger but don’t be surprised if he works his way up the top-50.
