The best guard in the class of 2012, shooting guard Rodney Purvis, backed off of his commitment to the Cardinals, something we speculated about last week. Purvis chose Louisville in the first place in large part because of his relationship with assistant coach Tim Fuller, who recently left and took the head coaching spot at Missouri.
“It was hard losing Tim Fuller and then having to focus,” says Purvis. “I talked it over with my family and we came to the conclusion that I would open up my recruitment.” Purvis adds, “I just want to develop a new relationship with the new staff. Louisville isn’t out or anything like that.”
Before he chose the Cardinals, Purvis considered Duke, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier among others and North Carolina is expected to jump in now that he has opened his recruitment back up. No visits are currently planned for Purvis but expect him to explore all of his options before he commits again.
